Destiny: The Taken King – Court of Oryx Rune Guide

Destiny: The Taken King – Court of Oryx Rune Guide

The Court of Oryx is a new activity introduced with The Taken King Expansion. To find it, you have to go to the Dreadnaught patrol point and take the right connecting path to the next area. You can see the Court of Oryx in the middle of this big room. It is covered with green energy that damages you while the event is inactive.

The Court of Oryx works like a public event with a few twists. The first difference is that the fight has to be started by a player and is not happening on its own. To start the event one player has to activate one version, ranging from tier 1-3. One being the easiest and three being a tough fight that requires multiple players.

If you see other guardians already fighting in The Court of Oryx you can join them by simply jumping into the ring. The person that starts the event will get the biggest reward after completion.

The most important difference is the activation of these events. To start a Court of Oryx fight, you have to present a rune to one of the statues. These runes can be earned through different activities. Here’s a short breakdown for each tier.

court of oryx

❱ Reciprocal Rune (Tier 1)

The first rune to start the “easy” version of Court of Oryx can drop during quests or by opening chests. If you have explored The Taken King a bit, you should have this rune already in your inventory. Once you have it, you can start Court of Oryx immediately. Rewards are very light and you will mostly see blue engrams after completing the fight.

❱ Stolen Rune (Tier 2)

The first real challenge can be started with the stolen rune. This rune can be found in chests or as a drop during a tier 1 Court of Oryx fights. Before you can use it, you have to charge it first, which is done by successfully completing 3 tier 1 fights. The bosses have a light level of 240, but since it can get pretty crowded it’s recommended to bring some other players for a smooth fight.

❱ Antiquated Rune (Tier 3)

The main course is the antiquated rune which can be obtained through Nightfall activities, Eris Morn reputation drops and also as a reward for completing the tier 2 runs. The Antiquated Rune also has to be charged, this time through multiple tier 2 fights.

The tier 3 Court of Oryx fight is a true challenge. You face a boss with light-level 300 and he brings a whole lot of support as well. So get your light level up as high as possible and bring some other guardians to help you out.
